China’s first imported and exported auto risk monitoring station was set up at Xinsha Port of Guangdong. On January 6, the Sub-center of the National Imported and Exported Commodity Quality and Safety Risk Monitoring Center for Autos was established at Xinsha Port. It will be responsible for collecting, summarizing and analyzing information about quality and safety risks from the trade partners engaged in import and export of autos. It aims to study on, determine and monitor any quality and safety risks related to imported and exported autos, contribute to the national macro-management of quality and safety of imported autos and promote a fast and sound development of auto import industry. Xinsha Port is one of the three largest Chinese ports engaged in import of finished autos, only second to the ports of Shanghai and Tianjin. In 2014, more than 300,000 autos were imported through the port, setting a historical record. On the same day, the first imported auto inspection and supervision zone was established in Xinsha under the approval of the government of Guangdong.
In 2014, a total of 328,000 autos were imported through Xinsha Port, covering major auto brands in Europe, the United States, Japan and ROK. Guangzhou Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine said that only 10,000 autos were imported through the port in 2005, but a breakthrough was made last year, with an increase of 16%.
“That the sub-center was established at Xinsha Port indicates that the ports of Guangzhou win high praise and trust of General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the Guangdong Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau with their remarkable achievements and strong technical capacity in inspection and supervision of imported and exported autos,” said person in charge of Guangzhou Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine. The auto inspection yard is now capable of inspecting 210 autos per hour, and more than 1,260 per day. The customs clearance term has been shortened by five days. It is one of the most advanced and efficient imported auto inspection yards of China.
