Guangzhou Ranks First in Express Delivery Last Year

It was for the first time in 2014 that the volume of express delivery business of China exceeded that of the United States, ranking first worldwide. On January 14, Guangdong Provincial Postal Administration said that last year the volume of express delivery business of Guangzhou exceeded that of Shanghai, ranking the first among 50 key cities of China.
Related data indicate that in 2014 the total business turnover of the post industry of Guangdong reached RMB 86 billion, up 45% year-on-year; the operating income reached RMB 56.3 billion, up 32% year-on-year; 3.36 billion items were delivered through express services, up 59% year-on-year; the income from express delivery business reached RMB 46.1 billion, up 37% year-on-year; the income from mail business, the income from express delivery business and the volume of express delivery business respectively accounted for 1/6, 1/5 and 1/4 of national total, all ranking first. The growths of the volumes of the mail business and express delivery business of Guangdong exceeded the national level. Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Dongguan ranked among the national Top 10 cities in terms of express delivery business, and Guangzhou ranked ahead of Shanghai to the first place among 50 key cities of China. In 2014, Guangdong finished the delivery of 5.86 billion express items. On basis of a unit value of RMB 160, the express delivery industry of Guangdong finished the delivery of items worth RMB 940 billion in 2014.
It is worth mentioning that during the “11·11” promotional activities, Guangdong’s express enterprises above designated size received and sent out 136 million express items, up 81% year-on-year, accounting for 1/4 of national total; more than 65 million express items were delivered, up 63% year-on-year; more than 200 million express items were handled, up 75% year-on-year, accounting for 1/5 of national total; the daily handling capacity reached up to 38 million items, up 90% year-on-year.
It was learnt that the objectives of the post industry of Guangdong include: a total business turnover of RMB 107.5 billion, up 25% year-on-year, an operating income of RMB 67.5 billion, up 20% year-on-year; an volume of express delivery business of 4.7 billion items, up 40% year-on-year, and a total income from express delivery business of RMB 60 billion, up 30% year-on-year. The satisfaction degree for the mail and express services will be continuously improved.
