Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology(MIIT) issued the Big Data Industrial Development Plan(2016-2020), stressing the acceleration of big data industry application ability cultivation to achieve an annual revenue of big data-related products and service industry of above 1 trillion yuan by 2020 at an annual compound growth rate of around 30%.

With the progress of informatization, data have become an important resource. Now, big data are widely applied in living. For instance, map software relies on them to estimate the traffic flow and guide the route selection. Shopping software uses big data to analyze consumers’ habit for accurate marketing etc. In family care field, smart watches for kids with the positioning function are also favored by parents. In 2016, a total of 1.82 million sets of 360 Kid Watch were sold. So far, the kid caring mileage has reached 2.38 billion kilometers.

But, in mass production, especially in the campaign for smart manufacturing and industrial transformation and upgrading, the application ability of big data needs to be improved in the fields including accurately identifying user’s demand to improve R&D efficiency, monitoring and optimizing line operation to intensify failure forecast and management, and improving management efficiency and decision-making level to achieve smart operation and management with the aids of big data.

Some big data enterprises have made pilot operations and started industrial application. Inspur focused on the big data market last year. So far, Inspur Enterprise Big Data have been applied in Sinograin and CECIC to offer them accurate data analysis and management. Inspur built Smart Grain Warehouse Big Data Platform for Sinograin and realized smart warehousing and decision-making.

According to MIIT, in the future, big data will be applied in the full process of industrial production. On one aspect, big data will greatly improve enterprises’ internal operation and management efficiency. On the other aspect, developing big data-based customization services will improve the smart and flexible manufacturing process. MIIT will also build Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation platforms for manufacturing enterprises, nurture new technologies, new businesses and new modes, and in particular, boost the transformation, upgrading, development and growth of SMEs by means of big data.
