Guangzhou Sees 3.9% Growth of Foreign Trade against the Downtrend

In January 2016, Guangdong Province completed RMB462.79 billion of imports and exports, down 4.5% compared with the same period of last year (the same below), while the national figure was down by 9.8% in the same period. This volume accounted for 24.6% of the total foreign trade of China of the same period, including RMB309.02 billion of exports, up 0.6%; and RMB153.77 billion of imports, down 13.3%, according to Guangzhou Customs.
In December 2015, Guangdong’s export hit a monthly record with the total amount of import and export and the amount of import only lower than the records created in March 2013. Entering 2016, the foreign trade declined obviously in January, down 4.5% on a year-on-year basis, and 36% on a month-on-month basis. Against the unsatisfactory general situation of foreign trade, Guangzhou’s export enjoyed a slight growth of 0.6%.
Of the 21 cities of Guangdong Province, nine saw growth of import and export, and 12 saw decline. Of them, six of the eight cities with foreign trade exceeding RMB10 billion suffered decline, with Shenzhen, Foshan, Zhuhai, Huizhou, Dongguan and Jiangmen saw decline of 8.2%, 6.6%, 20.4%, 14.7%, 0.2% and 1.2%, respectively. Only Guangzhou and Zhongshan grew by 3.9% and 2%, respectively. What’s more, some cities enjoyed export recovery: Jieyang sees a growth rate hike of 40.9% of export, driving the import and export growth by 39%; Qingyuan’s export grew by 96.5%, driving the import and export growth by 58.2%.
