Guangzhou Has Set up 119 Sci-tech Incubators

On March 10, Guangzhou Municipal Sci-tech Innovation Committee held sci-tech innovation meeting. In 2015, the output of high-tech products of Guangzhou’s industrial enterprises above statistics threshold increased 8.2% year on year; the national and provincial sci-tech innovation awards earned by Guangzhou were above half of the province’s total; and the number of incubators increased 40%, nearly achieving the 2016 target of 120 incubators one year ahead of schedule. Guangzhou has taken the 2nd place in China’s Urban Innovation and Startup Environment List (excluding municipalities directly under the central government) for five consecutive years. And the computing speed of Tianhe II Supercomputer has ranked the world’s No. 1 for six times in a row. 
 
Guangzhou had a total of 13 enterprises granted the honor of 2015 China Top 50 Innovation Companies issued by Fast Company, only next to Beijing.
 
Guangzhou saw good trend in incubator expansion. It had 34 new incubators, up 40% than the previous year, making the total number to 119, nearly achieving the 2016 target of 120 incubators one year ahead of schedule. It expanded incubation area by 150,000 sqm, up 30% year on year, making the total area to 650,000 sqm. And Guangzhou had 14 Coworking Space sites approved and included into state-level incubator management support system and 30 sites accredited as coworking space pilot units by the provincial science and technology department, ranking No. 1 in the province in both aspects.
 
Guangzhou had 110 new companies listed in the National Equities Exchange and Quotations, increased by three times and made the total to 145. The group of Guangzhou-based sci-tech innovation enterprises is taking shape in the market.
 
Guangzhou has 28 provincial new-type R&D institutions, ranking 1st in the province; set up 434 new enterprise construction R&D institutions; built 2 new state key laboratories, making the total to 19, accounting for 73.1% of the province’s total; and won 23 sate sci-tech awards, or 51.1% of the province’s total, 160 provincial sci-tech awards, or 64.3% of the province’s total. Guangzhou has 91 science popularization bases accredited by the municipal government.
