Taiwan-funded Enterprises in Guangzhou Eligible for R&D Subsidy of RMB500,000

In order to encourage and guide the Taiwan-funded enterprises in Guangzhou to enhance the scientific and technological innovation, improve product and service quality and efficiency, strengthen the enterprises’ core competitiveness, and promote economic transformation and upgrade, Taiwan Affairs Office of Guangzhou has coordinated with Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Commission to formulate the 2015 Manual of Guangzhou on Supporting Taiwan-funded Enterprises to Make Special Scientific and Technological Innovation Declaration (hereinafter referred to as the Manual). At present it is open for public suggestions at the government website.
According to the Manual, the supported projects will include five types, namely the key technological research and development, new product development, existing product improvement, and improvement of enterprise’s technological level. The special project declaration will start from January 2015 and implement for one or two years. The program will adopt the mode of beforehand registration and afterwards subsidy. The Taiwan-funded enterprises in Guangzhou can register a project each year and the newly increased funding of the project should be no lower than RMB1 million, input by the applicant first. After the project passes the examination in line with the stipulated procedures, the applicant can apply for the subsidy of RMB500,000.
It is learned that Guangzhou, as one of the first cities in the Chinese mainland introducing investment from Taiwan-funded enterprises, has 2,956 Taiwan-funded enterprises as of February 2015. To address the problems faced by Taiwan-funded enterprises such as difficulties in transformation and upgrade and shortage of technological talent, Guangzhou officially released the Opinions on Further Deepening Guangzhou-Taiwan Economic and Trade Cooperation and Supporting Taiwan-funded Enterprises to Transform and Upgrade in last July. Guangzhou Service Center for Promoting Scientific and Technological Innovation, Transformation and Upgrade of Taiwan-funded Enterprises was officially established in last August. The release of the Manual is one of the measures to implement the aforesaid policies.
