First French Elderly Care Project Established in Guangzhou
Release time:2017-03-31
At the 2015 China (Guangzhou) Annual International Investment Meeting, Pascal Brunelet, CEO of Colisee Patrimoine (France) said that the first elderly care project of Colisee Patrimoine will be soon put into operation in Panyu, Guangzhou. The Chinese partner for the project is China Merchants Group. Both sides will jointly establish Guangdong Merchants & Colisee Patrimoine Group, which will play a leading role in the development of projects for taking care of the elderly suffering dementia and disability.
Pascal said that the project is in line with the “9073” requirements for elderly care services under the 12th Five-Year Plan of China. “9073” means to enable 90% of elderly people above 65 to enjoy home care services, 70% of elderly people to enjoy day-care services and 3% of elderly people with serious dementia and disability to enjoy professional services at specialized elderly care organizations. On the other hand, the construction of specialized facilities for the elderly suffering dementia and disability meets related requirements of Guangzhou. He said, “Colisee Patrimoine does the best in taking care of the elderly suffering dementia and disability, including those with Alzheimer's and Parkinsonism. It will make effective supplement to the Chinese elderly care services.”
He said that, as the first step for investment in China, the project will be effectively integrated with the “9073” objectives. The core area will have an institution with 130 beds for the elderly suffering dementia and disability and day-care center will be established based on it to meet the demand of the residents in the surrounding areas. The institution will also provide home care services.
It was learnt that Colisee Patrimoine was established more than 20 years ago. In 1989, its first nursing home branded EHPAD was established. So far, the group has established more than 57 medical nursing homes, taking 10% of the elderly care service market of France. With total assets of EUR26 million, the group has become fourth biggest nursing home operator in France and a leader in the elderly care service market honored “white gold” in Europe.
In fact, Colisee Patrimoine entered the Chinese market five years ago with a company established in Beijing. It launched research on the Chinese elderly care market. Offices in Shenzhen, Chengdu and Kunming were established. However, for some reasons, such as experience, mode and costs, it had not launched any project.
Why did it choose Guangzhou? Pascal said that Guangzhou has the tradition for opening-up and the establishment of diplomatic relation between France and Chinese also began in Guangzhou. He said this provides historical connections for the cooperation. In addition, the headquarters of the Chinese partner is located in Guangdong. What’s more important, Colisee Patrimoine is very optimistic with the future of the Guangzhou market. “The aging level in Guangzhou is higher than the national level and the life expectancy in Guangzhou is longer than the national level, too. So, there must be large demand for elderly care services,” said Pascal.
