World Routes 2018 to Be Held in Guangzhou
Release time:2017-04-25

On April 21, Guangdong Airport Authority (GAA) and UBM, sponsor of the World Route Development Forum (hereinafter referred to as World Routes), signed cooperation agreement in Guangzhou, formally confirming that the 2018 World Routes will be held in Guangzhou.

From a global perspective, the World Routes, which is honored the “Olympic Games” and “World Expo” of the global civil aviation circle, is the only grand event with joint participation of decision makers from airlines, airports, government organizations, tourism administrations and related industries. The annual forum attracted more than 3,500 representatives from more than 30 government organizations, 350 airlines and more than 1,000 airports all over the world every year. It provides greatly favorable market opportunities and plays an important role in promoting development of civil aviation enterprises, local economic and trade development as well as cooperation and exchange.

Since Guangdong province has positioned Baiyun airport to be an important international air transport hub on “the Belt and Road” and the “Air Silk Road” and Guangzhou is making great efforts to propel the construction of the international air transport hub and develop airport economy, in October 2015, GAA submitted the application to UBM for holding the 2018 World Routes under the great support of the provincial government of Guangdong and the municipal government of Guangzhou, aiming to building up an “air bridge” and enhance the connectivity with the countries and regions along “the Belt and Road”. On January 30, 2016, the meticulously prepared bidding document was submitted to UBM; on February 29, representatives of GAA made a presentation at the headquarters of UBM in London. After six months’ unremitting efforts and three rounds of fierce competition, GAA finally stood out from a number of Chinese and foreign airports and became the organizer of the 2018 World Routes.

GAA hopes that the 2018 World Routes can bring about more opportunities for the development of Baiyun airport and the civil aviation industry of Guangdong province and also provide a chance for global aviation giants and governments of different countries to further understand Guangdong province and Guangzhou city. It also hopes that, the forum will be helpful for the implementation of “the Belt and Road” initiative, the further development of local economy, the acceleration of the construction of the international air transport hub and the development of airport economy in Guangzhou as well as the enhancement of the role of Guangdong in the establishment of a new pattern for the opening-up of China.
