Guangzhou’s “Internet Plus” Level Ranks the 3rd Place of China

At the China “Internet Plus” Summit held on June 17, Tencent Research Institute released the  Top 10 Chinese Cities with “Internet Plus”: the 1st tier cities show the highest level of “Internet Plus”, and Beijing ranks the first place and Guangzhou the third.
 
China “Internet Plus” index covers the mobile Internet development foundation, industry, innovation and startup and smart city, totaling 10 industries, namely retailing, finance, transportation and logistics, medical services, education, culture and entertainment, catering and hotels, tourism, commercial services, and life services. The index can precisely prescribe the map of China’s digital economy and intuitively reflect the implementation of the “Internet Plus” Strategy in 351 cities in China in the past year.
 
Ma Huateng, chairman of the board and CEO of Tencent Corporation, said that in the past year many cities have made great progresses in the urban services and public services such as the public security, taxation, medical services, sanitation, and education.
 
Of the “Internet Plus Smart City” sub-index, Guangzhou is outstanding, and ranks the first place in terms of the monthly active users of the main services such as the “Internet Plus” medical services, human resources and social security, cultural life, entry and exit services.
 
The report shows that driven by the strong growth of the 2nd and 3rd tier cities, “Internet Plus” have grown in the 351 cities. Of the provincial ranking of 2016 China “Internet Plus”, Guangdong, Beijing, Shanghai, Zhejiang and Jiangsu rank the Top 5.
 
The “Internet Plus” Index highly concentrates on the coastal provinces and the 1st tier cities. For example, the sum of “Internet Plus” Index of Guangdong, Beijing and Shanghai which rank the Top 3 is 35.5. In other words, these three account for one third shares of the total of the Digital China (35.5%).
