Guangdong to Realize Smart Manufacturing in 2025
Release time:2017-07-28

On July 27, Guangdong convened a working meeting on implementation of China Manufacturing 2025 and construction of the advanced manufacturing belt at the west bank of the Pearl River. At the meeting, Guangzhou Smart Manufacturing Development Plan (2015-2025) (the Development Plan) was distributed. This is the first time Guangdong issues the development plan working in concert with China Manufacturing 2025.
Guangdong is a large manufacturing province and an important manufacturing base of the world. In 2014, the manufacturing added value above the statistics threshold reached RMB2.6375 trillion, ranking the 5th place of the world if calculating as a single economy. However, Guangdong still has a long way to go in terms of the innovation capacity, product quality and brand and industrial structure compared with the advanced level of the world. In lack of core competitiveness, it is still highly dependent on the foreign countries on the key technology and core components. In face of the rising labor costs and increasingly strict land and environment constraints, it is urgent to transfer from “made-in-China” to “smart manufacturing”.

According to the Development Plan, Guangdong needs to accomplish the six key missions in the following 10 years. It will grow the added value of the smart manufacturing to RMB400 billion by 2020, and has a batch of internationalized enterprises at the high level in the work division with key technologies, and independent brands by 2025. Guangdong will complete construction of the national smart manufacturing development demonstration zone and a smart manufacturing cluster with international competitiveness by 2025.
