Steady Progress to Make Guangzhou Port Group Listed

Guangzhou Port Group (GPG) serves as a main driving force for the port construction of Guangzhou. In 2015, the cargo throughput of GPG reached 388 million tons, while the container throughput reached 15.038 million TEUs. During the 12th Five-Year Plan period, the cargo and container throughputs of GPG respectively had an average annual increase of 7.6% and 8.8%, higher than the average level of the main coastal ports of China, contributing more than 74% and 85% of the total throughputs of Guangzhou Port.
 
The number of inbound and outbound tourists by Nansha passenger liners reached 205,000 in the first seven months. The international cruise project of Nansha was put into regular operation on January 3, 2016. By the end of July, 61 inbound and outbound trips had been operated, serving 205,000 tourists, with a seat occupancy rate of about 85.8%. It was predicted that, 102 liners is expected to berth at Nansha Port of Guangzhou in 2016, serving more than 300,000 inbound and outbound tourists. In that case, Guangzhou will rank among the “important international passenger liner ports of China”.
 
GPG aims to: finish investment in fixed assets of RMB10 billion and improving the port handling capacity by 80 million tons during the 13th Five-Year Plan period; by 2020, increase the cargo throughput to 480 million tons, including container throughput of 21 million TEUs; increase the liner passenger throughput to 500,000; by 2020, increase the international container liner routes by 30, and amount the number of feeder ports and inland ports to more than 30; enable Guangzhou Port to serve as the base port in South China for container transport of two or three container liner operators that rank among the world top 10 places; by 2020, reduce the unit comprehensive energy consumption of the port by 3%.
 
GPG will fulfill the goals from four aspects. The first is to set up a high-end, high-quality and high-efficiency system of the shipping industry. The second is to center on the construction of the shipping center to promote the upgrading of the sea transportation industry. The third is to propel integration of port resources and establish a world-class port cluster at the Pearl River Delta. The fourth is to accelerate the planning centering on “the Belt and Road” initiative.
