Project for Expansion of Deep-Water Channel of Guangzhou Port Launched and Expected to be Put into Use the Next Year

On September 27, the ceremony for the launch of the project to expand the deep-water channel of Guangzhou Port, which is No.1 project for the infrastructure construction for building Guangzhou into an international shipping hub, was held at the Port Center. It was learnt that, the project will meet the standard to allowing for two-way navigation of 100,000-ton container vessel and 150,000-ton container vessel. The channel extending from Nansha Port area to the Pearl River estuary, which is 66.6 kilometers long, will be expanded and deepened. It is expected that, the channel of a length of about 50.2 kilometers outside the Nansha Port area will be expanded and put into use in the second half of the next year. The Guangzhou Port, Humen Port and the Western Shenzhen Port will all benefit from it and see a sharp increase of throughput.
The project is one of the key projects of Guangzhou and even Guangdong province, ranking top among the major public infrastructure construction projects for ports and hubs under the 13th Five-Year Plan of Guangdong Province for Development of Comprehensive Transportation System and the Three-Year Action Plan for Building Guangzhou into an International Shipping Center. Since initiated in 2011, the project has got great support from the officials and departments of the national, provincial and municipal governments. The leading officials of the government of Guangzhou also devote to making coordination for solving related problems and supervising the progress of the project.
