China Mobile doubles down on cloud computing

China Mobile said on Tuesday it will step up development of its cloud computing business after investing nearly 90 billion yuan ($13 billion) in cloud infrastructure construction over the past three years.

Yang Jie, chairman of China Mobile, said as an important part of the new infrastructure, cloud computing has become an effective driving force for the high-quality development of the digital economy and digital productivity that promotes social progress.

Yang said China Mobile will deepen technology co-research, create a cloud technology innovation industry ecosystem, establish joint laboratories and strengthen efforts to build communities for developers.

The company aims to develop over 10,000 channel partners and over 2,000 industry solution partners in the next three years and jointly provide full-process services such as cloud consulting, planning, delivery, operation and maintenance.

Last year, China Mobile's cloud computing revenue exceeded 50 billion yuan, a 25-fold increase compared to three years prior. Revenue of China Mobile's digital transformation reached 207.6 billion yuan in 2022, with year-on-year growth of more than 30 percent and becoming the main engine driving revenue increases.
