Xpeng Aeroht, the flying car venture of Chinese electric carmaker Xpeng, has joined forces with Hainan province to introduce the "aerial round-the-island scenic highway", ushering in a new era of island-wide flying in the tropical province.
The inauguration ceremony for the Hainan flying car demonstration application island took place in Haikou on Tuesday afternoon.
During the launch event, Xpeng Aeroht unveiled a three-step plan with the Hainan provincial development and reform commission to construct a flying car application demonstration island.
In the first step, preparatory work involves Xpeng Aeroht signing cooperation agreements with over 40 flying campsites in Hainan, covering most of the province's renowned attractions.
The second step will see Hainan and Xpeng Aeroht collaborating to create China's first nearly 1,000-kilometer aerial round-the-island scenic highway, revolving around the island's circular scenic road and its rest stations. This aerial route will feature 42 observation decks, 24 parking spots and 40 stations, offering immersive flying car journeys, enabling "flying while playing, and flying across the entire island".
The third step aims to complete over 20 flying car campsites from 2026 to 2027, achieving full coverage of scenic spots along the "island-flying" low-altitude route.
The event concluded with Xpeng Aeroht's Land Aircraft Carrier completing its maiden flight in Hainan.
The Land Aircraft Carrier, the world's first large-scale mass-produced modular flying car, is set to be officially launched and delivered in 2026, with a price of no more than 2 million yuan ($274,600).
Jiang Hong, deputy director of the Hainan provincial development and reform commission, emphasized that Hainan's unique tropical island status and abundant natural resources are prime drivers for low-altitude economic development.
Qiu Mingquan, vice president of Xpeng Aeroht, stated that flying car excursions are poised to redefine island self-driving tours and become a distinctive symbol of tourism in Hainan.
