China attaches great importance to the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention and is deepening the "AI Plus" initiative to build a technology-empowered, multi-stakeholder, transparent and trustworthy AI ecosystem for CWC implementation, China's top industry regulator said.

Vice-Minister of Industry and Information Technology Xie Yuansheng said China is ready to work with the international community to develop more AI public goods in the field of CWC implementation, expand cooperation in AI technology, help developing countries bridge the digital and intelligence divide, and jointly improve the capacity to prevent and control chemical safety and security risks, making greater contributions to safeguarding lasting world peace and promoting sustainable development, he said.

Xie made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the Second International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Chemical Safety and Security, co-hosted by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, earlier this month.

Xie said AI has brought new opportunities and challenges to the high-quality development of the chemical industry and the implementation of the CWC. The workshop, he said, points the way for better using AI technology, empowering CWC implementation and preventing and defusing risks and challenges.

China will continue to work with all parties to advance AI cooperation in CWC implementation, he added.
